Day 71 Wanaka, Queenstown

We had to leave Wanaka this morning but not be before we had one last look and a couple of pictures.

Iron Mountain

Lake Wanaka

We jumped on Hwy 6a which would take us directly into Queenstown.  The first part of the drive looked like it could be in Southern California.  The San Jacinto Mountains have a very similar look with the exception of being a little browner

We then started to climb as we had to cross the Crown Range of the Southern Alps.  There were actually a couple of viewpoints with parking lots and we took full advantage.  The vista were unbelievable as we had made a gradual climb and did not realize how high we were.

Arrowtown

The descent into Queenstown was a series of switchbacks like I have never seen.  On most of the reverse turns you had to slow down to around 20 kph or you were in the other lane.  It was fun.

We arrived at the RV park in the early afternoon, went for groceries and got back just into time for the rain.  We decided to lay low for the rest of the day as we are still a little tired from yesterday.  A good tired, but tired.  It is forecasted to be a nice day tomorrow.
