Day 40 Rotorua and Okere Scenic Reserve

Tuesday morning was a little overcast but still looked like it would be a nice day. We spent the morning trying to decide what to do. We have found Rotorua very busy and very commercialized compared to the rest of the island. The Thermal Area has been over exploited as there are many venues that appear to be very similar and all very expensive. We have picked one out that, to us, looks like it is in it's more natural state However, that is tomorrow on our way out of town.

This afternoon we headed out to the Okere Scenic Reserve which also had a walkway. The signs said it was a one hour return trip but we took a detour for an extra half hour. It was a nice day for a stroll through the woods.

While we were walking to the falls we could hear a lot of excited yelling coming from the river. Upon reaching the falls we could see why. It is used by one of the rafting companies for their white water rafting trips.

It would have been fun to watch the rafts trying to navigate the falls.

We carried on with the walk along the river and took a few more pictures.

On the way back to the campsite we stopped at an area that had a little Thermal Activity and took a couple of pictures. I am sure that are more than a few spots like this.

It was not getting later in the afternoon so we just decided to head back to the park. We are going to try to get a early start to the day tomorrow. Don't hold your breath.
